Sika in Concert – a seated music performance.
You’re invited to watch the performance with eyes wide open. This evening is not a Sound Journey.
Sika is a Sound Artist based in New Zealand, renowned for his innovative and genre-creating use of ancient instruments.
Since his debut album in 1990, Sika has had worldwide success with 11 solo album releases. He has performed sold out shows in Britain and New Zealand, including festival appearances every year (Glastonbury Festival, The World Yoga Festival, Green Gathering and many more).
His music stories depict landscapes, old relationships with the trees, rocks and elemental spirits.
Ancient didgeridoo, double skinned log drums, deep textural voices and native flutes.
The haunting voices of Māori Taonga pūoro and obscure foraged natural objects such as leaves, stones, bones and shells all convey a sense of mystery.
A beautiful world of evocative soundscapes that reflects a lifetime of listening to the rhythms of nature.
Sika is an extraordinary multi-instrumentalist known for powerful rhythms on Taos drum, whilst simultaneously playing didgeridoo.
His devotion to living a path that merges nature’s wisdom with contemporary culture, has made him one of the foremost pioneers of his genre in Sound Art.
