A tribute to Oceania at the Royal Academy

This special event is part of the RA’s Oceania exhibition. Marking 250 years since Cook’s first voyage to the Pacific, it celebrates the diverse art of the region of Oceania, through music, storytelling and art.

Oceania will bring together around 200 exceptional works from public and private collections worldwide, and will span over 500 years. From shell, greenstone and ceramic ornaments, to huge canoes and stunning god images, it will explore important themes of voyaging, place making and encounter.

The exhibition runs from 29th September – 10th December 2018

What is The Big Draw?

In addition to being part of Oceania, Sika’s event is inspired by another special event: The Big Draw. The Big Draw is described as ‘the world’s biggest celebration of drawing’.

Families will be invited to sketch Sika and his instruments during the workshop, perhaps creating art inspired by sound.
